Canyon de Chelly, Spider Rock 8-2024

Carmen and I visited Canyon de Chelly in the spring of 1996...we toured a small section of the canyon on the back of an old army truck designed to haul tourists and not get stuck...the viewpoints along the edge of the canyon are much nicer now and are managed by the National Park Service...at most of the stops are native american artists selling arts and crafts, take some 20's and bottled water to share, I made several purchases and had a pleasant experience...Spider Rock has been on my list to photograph for a long time...just to give you an idea of my schedule, I arrived about 2pm to scout the formation, looked for the best vantage point for camera placement and knew I had a long wait for nice light...I drove twenty miles back to Chinle, checked into my hotel, got a quick hamburger, filled my tank with gas and was back at the viewpoint by 5pm and watched the light change over the next three hours until sunset...most of the visitors I encountered were international, Holland, Germany, China...one older gentleman asked me if I was waiting for the right light and I told him yes...I was alone the last hour but saw a few other visitors still taking selfies on my way to my truck...I captured close to 250 photos...in some of the later photos you might be able to see small white specks down along the wash at about six-seven o'clock, a small herd of horses...there was also a small herd of cattle but they blend in...at times I could hear the echo of the horses, cattle and a pack of coyotes waking up at sunset..
