Horton Creek 5-2024

I have visited this creek in the fall, winter and now spring...imagine a small active creek that flows through a Ponderosa Pine forest, low 70's, a slight breeze, the smell of the pines heavy in the air! And imagine you are the only one there, on my last two visits I only saw people at the parking lot but I was all alone along the creek...try that in Oak Creek Canyon!!! If you see dark green organic material on the surface of a rock, don't use it as a stepping stone, very slippery...I slipped on my butt descending to the creek once, the banks were very dry and powdery...and once I had a boot go into the water almost deep enough to fill it...that extra money for Gore-tex(waterproof material) lined hiking boots is worth it...I will also mention the lightweight carbon fiber tripod that I use to steady the camera in the water, mud and to steady me as I hop from rock to rock as I cross back and forth across the creek.
