I have an app called PhotoPills that gives me details on the position and phases of the moon...I find it is easier to photograph a setting moon than a rising moon where I live...I have an unobstructed view looking west and an elevated viewpoint...I can use the app to know when the moon sets, calculate the back-time to take advantage of the color the sunrise will add to the moon...black sky, bright moon, then dark blue sky as the moon starts to turn orange and then rich blue sky with very orange moon...once the moon gets too low in the atmosphere, near the horizon and I start looking through the city pollution it loses definition.
