This area of southern Illinois is where I was born and lived the first nine years of my life...the small Golden Eagle Ferry to cross the Mississippi River, a grand old abandoned farm house, a lift bridge over the Illinois River in Hardin, the farmhouse were I was born, the barn on my grandparent's farm, the War Memorial in Hamburg remembering those who served from this area and the shore of the Mississippi River just upstream from where my mother was born. The Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site is on the east side of the Mississippi from St. Louis...these are man made mounds called City of the Sun...the area covers six square miles and has 120 mounds of different sizes and was occupied AD 700-1400.
